Nestled in the Sahayadri ranges of Maharashtra, Lonavala hill resort is situated 96 km away from Mumbai. It is hovering at a height of about 625 m and is positioned at a distance of 62 km from Pune. The destination is very popular, not only amongst sightseers, but also amongst adventure seekers. Trekkers specially find Lonavala a very exhilarating destination, as it has many possibilities for long treks. A visit to the hill station also serves as an outstanding getaway, away from the dirt and pollution of cities.

The word ‘Lonavala’ is derivative form of a Sanskrit term- 'Lonavli', which means 'City enclosed by Caves'. When we look in its history, it used to serve as one of the significant Buddhist hubs in India. Infect, the Karla and Bhaja Caves, positioned near Lonavala, have Buddhist beginnings and date back to somewhere around the 2nd century BC. The Lonavala hill station also formed as part of the territory of Chattrapati Shivaji. Later, it went into the hands of the Peshwa rules, and then, under British regulation.

However, the place witnesses’ lovely ambiance and weather almost throughout the year but the best time to pay a visit comprises of the months of October to May. In the monsoon season, the whole Lonavala dons a dirt free and bright look. The entire valley gets roofed in a green cloak, with the bright rainbows providing the ideal backdrop. Located in the Western Ghats of India, Lonavala is also identified for its Chikki, a sweet made from jaggery, combined with peanuts or cashewnuts or sesame seeds.
