Founded in the year 1940, Nariman Point is the one of the important business centers in the Mumbai city of India., which has become one of the posh localities of Bombay, where one can find the offices of the foremost business houses of India. As per a survey, Nariman Point claimed the distinction of being the most expensive place in the world, in terms of commercial real estate rentals in the year 1995.
The value stood at somewhere approximately $175 per square foot ($1880 per sq m). Within a decade, the prices at Nariman point witnessed huge jumps and in 2006, they stood at approximately $450 per sq foot ($4800 per sq m). The region is located on the extreme southern tip of the aristocratic Marine Drive. The point where the center is currently positioned had been reclaimed from the sea by Khursheed Framji Nariman, a Parsi visionary.
It named after its initiator Khurshid Nariman (A.K.A. Veer Nariman) who was a corporator in Bombay Municipal Corporation. He planned the idea of retrieving land from the sea and thus wreckage from various parts of Bombay was brought here and dumped. Though, due to some reasons, Nariman was dismissed midway. Thereafter, rest of the reclamations was carried out in the 1970s, which finally led to the expansion of Nariman Point.
