Nestled on the northern side of the Malabar Hills at Bhulabhai Desai Road, Mahalaxmi Temple in Mumbai is one of the significant religious Temples for the Hindus. This religious site is dedicated to the three goddess power such as - Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswathi and Goddess Kali. The delightful location of the temple, along with the high regard attached to it, entices devotees from all over the country. Every year, locals as well as tourists gather at the Mahalaxmi Temple of Bombay in large numbers, bowing before the deities and praying for happiness and opulence.

Besides the beautiful idols of the three presiding deities, the temple also enshrines the images of several Hindu goddesses. Though, the idols of the three Goddesses have been molded in gold. Further beautifying the magnificent images are brilliant pieces of jewelry, comprising of nose rings, gold bangles and pearl necklaces. The idol of Mahalakshmi, shown riding a tiger and a demon (Mahishasur), is the best of all.

Initially built on a creek that separated the island of Mumbai from the Koli island, it is one the oldest temples in the Mumbai city of India. However, in 1784, when the Hornby Vellard was completed it, the creek was filled. Thus, Maha Laxmi Temple came up at the site. The gate of the temple has been decorated with elaborate embellishments and beyond it is the sanctum that enshrines Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth.

Another attractive feature of the temple is its grain-strewn square, where visitors can enjoy seeing the groups of pecking grey pigeons. During the Navratri festival, you can see the maximum rush inside the place of the Mahalaxmi Temple of Mumbai. On this occasion, the temple is wonderfully festooned and the idols are clothed by the most brilliant clothes and jewelry. This exceptional crowed can be observed here during the weekend also.
